I must say that this was an awesome show. I'll just put in highlights
here for now. Dean Del Rey (DDR) started things off and I must
say this was my first time hearing much of his material and I thought he
did a really good job. It isn't always easy being an opening act, but he
made it bearable. Greg and Fred jumped on during the third song of his
act and Rami wandered on and off between. Rami is such a riot. I got
pretty close to the stage (2nd row center - viewing between heads) and
that allowed me to see and hear some of the jokes that were going on. Compared to other shows the Wallflowers came on pretty quickly following DDR. Of course I have to back up a bit. I was a tad disappointed that I couldn't attend the Pete Yorn show at the Crocodile the same evening...but he came by to introduce the Wallflowers to the crowd. I went nuts! I wondered how long he stayed before leaving for his own gig. The Wallflowers were great (as always). I really loved how they re-invented some of the songs for a fresh new sound. "Up From Under" was one in particular that I never thought could be so uppity. "Empire" was just as wonderful, being the opening song. Really reminded me of their performance on Leno. My favorite, the one song that they haven't done on this tour yet was "Pleasantville" and I was so grateful to hear it. "3 Marlenas" was also great with Yogi leading things off. I really wanted to hear "Into The Mystic" but hey - I can't complain about their set either. Jakob's cowboy hat is back! A little thing to notice, but I love that hat. Being in that small club kinda made me think so this is what things must've been like back in the day before "6th Avenue" and before "One Headlight." Jake was very friendly with the crowd and band often making small jokes. Giving major props to all of the other guys. Greg was always smiling bobbing his head to the beats. Yogi was amazing on all of his guitar solos. Fred did a wonderful job on drums. Rami - I had trouble seeing, but wow I loved the backup keys he did did with Jakob during the encore. Well. As some may know Rami has fell offstage...Jakob also had a near tripping. Nothing that some glo-tape couldn't fix. After the show my brother got a setlist from the sound guy for me. Got a new Wallflowers t-shirt. This one I made sure not to leave behind at the venue. It's kinda cute looking with alien-esque people making up letters of the Wallflowers. |
