Let's see I got into Seattle with about 45 minutes to spare before the instore. So I took the last parking spot (had to backwards side angle park it - the only way it could be worse is if it's on a hill) next to the building. I went inside and mulled around picking up a local favorite cd by Critters Buggin (Matt Chamberlain) and David Poe's new cd since I decided to check him out since he and Duncan will be sharing the gigs today
2pm rolled around and there still wasn't much of a crowd. I stood by the front slightly leaning against these vinyl record bins. I didn't want to give up my good space. Then Duncan Sheik and David Poe walked right by me. That was really unexpected. I guess a few people didn't recognize them immediately either. Then came the call over the intercom "Will the owner of a dark blue..." That would be me. So I rushed back out to see a big U-Haul right in front of my car. They needed to unload. Luckily other places in the small lot opened up so I just had to back into one of those. It's funny how determination to get back inside just makes you a better parker. So I watched Duncan come out to get his guitar out and walking by my car. "Hop inside," I thought. LOL. Luckily when I made it back in no one made a move for my spot. They took pity on the short girl. I mean those vinyl record bins were about as tall as I was.
The guys were about 30 minutes late, but that's okay. David Poe came out first. He wondered who's cell phone was ringing and guessed it was Duncan's. He played 2 songs off his new cd including the title track "Love Is Red." Although he was by himself it sounded so rich musically with that little sound device thing (sorry for the lack of a more technical term) at his feet. His voice. Wow. Much better in person.
Then Duncan came on. He's so sweet. Almost forgot to plug his guitar in. He did 2 songs off of his Daylight cd. "For You" and "Momento." I was really happy about that last one since it was one of the 3 songs I was hoping he'd do.
David came back out and they did a number from their
upcoming band project with Matt Johnson (The The?) and some other guy.
Duncan also played "White Limousine" (also the title of his
new cd). After that the mini performance was over and the store said
they would be doing an autograph signing. I stuck inside the store
thinking they would have a line and everything. So I wasted time walking
through the place again only to spot them both outside talking to
friends.
I'm guessing he was a bit tired as he said it was
just too early to be playing music. Shouldn't we all be in church. Then
some guy yelled out the right response for many of us there, "This
is our church."
