Duncan Sheik
Jim Boggia
Teddy Thompson
February 12, 2006 - Triple Door - Seattle, WA

Ah, so I had the wonderful opportunity to sneak in a Duncan Sheik show today. Something that made me a little nervous on whether I would be able to go or not, and then that worry turned into would I be able to get a ticket.
Thanks to a fellow SheikFreik (a millions thanks).

We had a table in the back corner of the venue (very swanky looking), but still a pretty darn good view. Not to mention being able to eat at the same time.

Jim Boggia opened. Okay I admit I groaned about there being another opening act. However, he really proved himself and I really liked what I heard. He was excited to play, share, and interact with the audience. Bummer though that "Conneticut" (I believed it was called and which was about his experience with record labels) wasn't on any of his cds. Considering the subject matter, that is understandable.

Teddy Thompson followed. He was the original opening act I heard of. It was good stuff, but it just kind of dragged the mood down. Sucks the energy right out of you.

Duncan Sheik and band opened up the show with my favorite song of the moment off of White Limousine. There was also a lot more songs from Daylight than I expected, but that is my favorite Duncan disc so I didn't really mind. Especially "Memento." David Poe to my surprise came out and did 2 songs from their forthcoming band. Not sure if there are really titles for those songs or not. David Poe should've been the second opening act instead. Seems like a waste for him to come all this way just to do 2 songs and percussion on another.

1. Nothing Fades
2. Good Morning!
3. For You
4. Fantastic Toys And Corduroys
5. Start Again
6. Genius
7. Wishful Thinking
= w/ David Poe =
8. song about sex
9. song about death
= w/ DP and Band =
10. White Limousine
= DS w/ Band =
11. I Don't Believe In Ghosts
12. The Dawn's Request
13. Memento
14. Hey Casanova
= Encore =
15. Mr. Chess (solo)
16. She Runs Away
17. Home

Duncan's encore was just wonderful. A solo version of  "Mr. Chess." Then ending off with some good ol' favorites like "Home." *sigh* He's so humble even when it comes to promoting his new cd. As always there was a wonderful rich sound in his music. The bass was a little heavier than I expected - but I won't blame that on the new bassist. Probably more to do with the locale and speakers.

After the show I was kind of bullied to leave by my brother to give me 20 minutes to see if Duncan shows up. Which he did. Phew! So we stuck around and chatted while he was working the line.

Saw Gerry Leonard, but he seemed like he was getting out of there so I didn't bother to try and meet him. Should have, but didn't.

Duncan was so sweet to all the fans. Poor guy seemed exhausted though. During my time to meet him I just kind of blanked out on what I was going to say. Duncan did ask if we were at his last show. Guess he remembers. He also asked if we were Buddhist. I actually felt kind of bad by saying "no." Truth in the matter is I'm really undecided when it comes to things like beliefs. It could be something though if I ever decide to read into it.

It was a great night. To top it off when we walked outside of the venue there was David Poe just chatting away on the sidewalk. I snapped a quick photo. Unfortunately of just his backside. Once again I'll try to save my reputation and say it's not what you think. I don't mean to take posterior shots. He was wearing a coat anyways. Who am I kidding...I won't win.

Good times. :)

On to the blurry photos...
