Minnie Driver
Michael Miller
November 13, 2004 - Crocodile Cafe - Seattle, WA

So Minnie Driver had her first show at Seattle's Crocodile Cafe Saturday night, and figuring how I just happened to also have the day off to check her out.

The tickets said the show started at 9pm, but as it turns out that was the time the venue would open it's doors. Thank goodness the weather wasn't too horrible. So when I got inside I had my ID all ready to be checked out. No one checked it, and they took my ticket stubs away as well. There goes my souvenirs as I keep all of my stubs. My brother said he was hungry and went off to find a menu when all of a sudden I heard "RAMI!" I turned around and did a back take as he just passed by me and I exclaimed "Wha???" Sure that didn't look obvious. My brother came back to me..."You just missed him" Well, duh!

So I stood by the curtained off area from the stage and within a few minutes they opened it up and people were making a dash to the stage when all of a sudden a worker came up to me asking for my ID. I was a bit pissed off that they didn't ask me earlier, but I still managed to find a nice spot by the stage. There were considerably a bunch of older people at the shows so I wasn't quite as crammed. I saw a couple of familiar faces from other Wallflowers shows.

My brother in the meantime was ordering his food and took a table to himself. Then he told me after the show that all the other tables were pretty full, so when Rami had come back in with his friend and they were looking at where to sit they were eyeing his table. Thankfully that didn't happen or else my brother would rub that into my face. How he always sees Rami hanging around at the shows...I don't know.

It was another hour wait before Michael Miller came on. I always thought the name sounded familiar, but I didn't connect it. When I saw him, it kind of bothered me...you know when you have that tip of the tongue feeling? It was kind of a slow and depressing set. It looked like everyone around me wanted to die. I kept ground and didn't think his songs were that bad. Maybe with the right producer and stuff it would be more appealing to a larger audience, if he wanted to ever go that route. I liked the song he had on the Trampoline Records compilation (which Rami appeared and played keys for). It wasn't until Michael gave his web address and the "crusade" part made me think back and realized I had a promo cd of his from 2000 when I was doing a lot of promo work for different record companies. I found it pretty quickly out of my zillions of cds when I got home.

Then it was about a 15 minute wait for Minnie Driver to take the stage at 11pm. She looked and sounded wonderful. Marc "Doc" Dauer was also there of course and I was standing in front of him, unfortunately blocking my view of Rami. So most of my photos are hip (and crotch *blushes*) shots of Doc. I only took a few pictures because the guys at the soundboard were RIGHT there watching. Such a shame since Rami was wearing such a cool hat and I wanted to get a photo of him wearing it.

Rami...walking off the stage. Come baaaack.

I was glad to hear there would be a video for "Invisible Girl" my favorite song off her album. At one point in the show she was talking about how talented her band was and mentioned that at any point the guys could've switched their instruments. The crowd wanted to see it of course and Minnie did a little freak out saying "no!" During the encore she played her own guitar. It was a short show, but it was nice and soothing. Out in the lobby I spotted Rami talking to some peeps. I was making my way over there when I saw my friends appear out of nowhere! I was surprised since none of them replied back to an e-mail I sent so I didn't think any of them were going.

Anyways, one dragged me off to meet this girl of Rami's who wanted to see me. Me? Little demure me? The poster girl of the un-hip? I couldn't remember her name since I was still shocked about seeing everyone there. I also saw Doc who gave me a hug that I wasn't prepared for. Sweaty vintage Springsteen shirt. After that my brother wanted to introduce me to his friends that he was dining with. By the time were were done chatting I couldn't even find Rami. So I chatted with my friends a bit and then saw Rami sneaking out the door. Dang! Oh well, my brother promised me we would wait out at the next Wallflowers show. There were a few more people left at that time hoping to meet Minnie, but my brother and I headed home. It was a nice event, and a good way to celebrate another year.
