Minibar
Old 97's
March 10, 2004 - Showbox - Seattle, WA

Tonight I went to see Minibar with the Old 97's over at the Showbox. Actually, before the show my brother and I heard soundcheck thru the walls of the restaurant next door. It was a nice preview.

When we got in through the doors the floor was empty, but the bar areas were jam packed! So we camped out in front of the stage. We saw an occasional member of Minibar coming out and testing their equipment. I finally ended up on Tim's side of the stage. We were close enough so my brother read to me the setlist. I was quite delighted that they were going to do "Wide Open."

I saw quite a few people, but with my throat being sore I didn't really say too much. The vocals were quite muffled in the beginning, but near the end of the set things got slightly better. I think the vocals were easier to hear in the other areas of the club, but then I wouldn't get to see anything. Nearing the last couple of songs I dared to get out my old digital camera and snap a few quick pics.

The Old 97's, what an energizing group to see live! Rhett Miller was all over the place...and actually so were the other members. I thought the lead guitarist might fall over on to me from wandering around so much. You can tell they were having a lot of fun. The only detracting point for me was the gal behind me who was smoking...probably flicking her ashes into my hair...and holding a drink...possible spillage since she was dancing like crazy (and potential to set my hair on fire). I'm not sure...but she could've been the one who flung her empty cup at the guitarist. I didn't stay for the whole show. They had quite a long list posted up. However, I did overhear something about someone storming up the stage.

On our way out my brother and I saw Sid and Mal by the merch booth. Overall I had a lot of fun, and it was certainly worth all of the time being cooped up at home.
