His music has been featured in the hit
films Spider-Man and Me, Myself & Irene. He has
performed with everyone from Beck to Weezer. USA Today
opined that he's "the latest last great hope for the ailing
singer/songwriter genre" while Rolling Stone included him
on its list of "Ten to Watch in 2001."
And now, two years later, Pete Yorn remains one to
watch--closely--on the pop-rock music scene.
The 27-year-old singer, songwriter and guitarist, whose
infectious books and introspective lyrics have been likened to
some of the early works of R.E.M., is still enjoying the
commercial success of the Gold-certified (sales of at least
500,000 copies) musicforthemorningafter. But he's also
gearing up for a nationwide tour in support of his new release,
which is slated to arrive in stores this spring.
On his web site,
www.peteyorn.com, Yorn says of his last album, "I wanted to
make a record I would be proud of and believe in. I didn't want
to make it for the wrong reasons, just to get on the radio, but
I also want people to hear it." Well, that they have, whether
it's on progressive rock stations or at such legendary venues as
the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York and the Riviera Theater in
Chicago, where Yorn has played to packed houses. And there's no
reason to doubt that his forthcoming CD and the tour, which
launches in April, will do anything but bolster his hard-earned
reputation as an audience-pleasing musical craftsman.
The New Jersey native has been perfecting that craft since
teaching himself to play his brother's drum kit at the age of 9.
Yorn was strumming the guitar by age 12, which led to
performances at high school talent shows. He went on to graduate
from Syracuse University and then headed west to L.A. to launch
his music career.
If Yorn's passionate performances sound like they're up your
musical alley, AT&T Wireless customers can take advantage of an
exclusive, limited-time ticket offer that includes a
post-concert "meet and greet" with Pete himself with the
purchase of a qualifying phone and a calling plan of at least
$39.99 per month. Ticket availability is limited; see
www.attwireless.com/meetpete for more on the special offer
and the tour. Of course, AT&T Wireless customers with mMode
service can always find Yorn and other Sony Music artists (as
well as purchase CDs and get news, tour information and other
special content) via the Sony Music Mobile site, a premium
service exclusively for data plan subscribers. To find this and
other music sites, from mMode home, select Entertainment, the
