How do you compose most of your
songs: on piano, guitar, or just a notebook?
I compose my songs many different ways. Very often the songs
will start from the drums. But I do write on guitar, piano and
bass as well. I tend to get very inspired by the way a song
feels rhythmically, so if I can start with a great drum beat, I
can build off that.
If you could have any other singer's voice (other than your
own), whose would you choose and why?
Frank Sinatra, circa 1945-50. Because he was young and because
he was Frank.
Would you rather have a song you wrote quoted in a
love/breakup letter or played on a commercial?
I'm sure it's cooler to say I'd rather have it in a love/breakup
letter, but the commercial would probably pay more.
Do you remember the first song you ever wrote? What was it
called and why did you write it?
The first song I ever wrote is called "The One." I think I was
12 years old and "in the glow of love" at the time. It sounded
like the Cure.
How do you get out of writer's blocks?
What's "writer's blocks?"
If you were asked by a potential lover to play one of your
songs just prior to getting busy, what song would you choose and
why?
Probably a song called "June," because it's short.
